WHAT
WE LEAVE
BEHIND

Throughout the course of our lives we collect memories, gather mementos, and hold onto these material items due to sentiment. Years pass, our collections grow, and we fall into the comfort of normalcy. It is easy to forget life’s unpredictability until it throws the next curveball, shattering our sense of normal. In my exploration of this abandoned home, I was confronted by a visual representation of this disruption of normal. In a space where time stands still, recognizable belongings create a vague connection between the lives of those who lived here and my own. Presented with more questions than answers, it’s left up to the viewer to determine what these forgotten belongings say about the people who left them behind.
